The Stubborn Child Law was in effect until 1973 in Massachusetts and many, many innocent children were ruined by this over the 300 years since the Puritanical types created it. Basically children had absolutely no rights under the law and were property of parents(slaves) to do with as they wished. Used as slave unpaid labor on farms etc. beaten, and they could claim without any evidence whatsoever their child was "stubborn" and have them killed by the state.(females were added) although the death penalty was removed before 1973. I know as my parents in Concord, Mass-father got rid of me charging in Concord District Court after having me arrested by Concord Police and thrown in jail for no reason other than he wanted my mother's money and to steal money meant for my college etc. and get rid of me. My father was Chairman of the Dept. of Biology at Tufts University, had been forced from Columbia and had grown up poor on a chicken farm in Delaware and married my mother using her money to go to graduate school and later had her "committed" drugged, and forced into an "institution" after having obtained Legal rights to all her money. This happened to me in the mid 1960's and she died locked away, drugged being tortured with Haldol etc. locked up until he death which I later found out about. I am 68 and still suffer emotionally from these events even though I'm retired and doing ok with my own family. Nobody cared about what was right or about the children horrifically abused under this "law".
