From Negative Reinforcement University...You're stuck in a dungeon. In each room water is filling to the top but you can choose a button a Triangle or a Circle and if you choose correct a door will open and you can continue to another room (there is a total of 5 rooms) if at any point you select the wrong combination you must go back to the begining (the 1st room)What is the negative reinforcer when you are in the dungeon? I am confused! I thought maybe the negative reinforcer was the water filling the room or being sent back to the beginning but would that be considered punishment? Could the negative reinforcer be the buttons? Thanks in advance for any help! This is really confusing me!!

A negative reinforcement involves taking away an aversive stimulus. This should help you decide.

You're right when indicating the water and being sent back are punishment, administering an aversive stimulus.
