In lab we did thermochemistry, where we are supposed to find the heats of solution, heat change of calorimeter and molar heat solution of the salt. I calculated that the calorimeter constant for the water we had was 883.194 Joules. We took 1/10 of a mole of NH4Cl and tried to find the calorimetry from there. Our initial temp with 150 mL of deionized water was 23.72 degrees Celsius and after adding 5.349 g of NH4Cl salt, we found the equilibrium temp. to be 21.625 degrees Celsius. How do you calculate Specific Heat of Solution, Heat change of calorimeter, total heat change and molar heat solution of NH4Cl? Any help would be great. Thanks!

To calculate the specific heat of solution, heat change of calorimeter, total heat change, and molar heat solution of NH4Cl, you will need to follow these steps:

1. Calculate the heat change of the calorimeter:
- Heat change of the calorimeter (qcal) is given by the equation: qcal = Ccal * ΔTcal
- Ccal is the calorimeter constant (883.194 J)
- ΔTcal is the change in temperature of the calorimeter (final temperature - initial temperature)
- Given the initial temperature of 23.72 degrees Celsius and the equilibrium temperature of 21.625 degrees Celsius, ΔTcal = 21.625 - 23.72 = -2.095 degrees Celsius

2. Calculate the total heat change:
- Total heat change (qtotal) is given by the equation: qtotal = -qcal
- Since ΔTcal is negative, qcal will be positive, so the total heat change will be negative (as energy is released)
- qtotal = -883.194 J = -883.194 J

3. Calculate the heat change of solution:
- Heat change of solution (qsol) is given by the equation: qsol = qtotal - qcal
- qsol = -883.194 J - (-883.194 J)
- qsol = 0 J

4. Calculate the molar heat of solution:
- The molar heat of solution (ΔHsol) is given by the equation: ΔHsol = qsol / moles of solute
- Given that 1/10 of a mole of NH4Cl was used, the moles of solute = 1/10 = 0.1 mole
- ΔHsol = 0 J / 0.1 mole = 0 J/mole

Therefore, the specific heat of solution is 0 J/g°C, the heat change of the calorimeter is -883.194 J, the total heat change is -883.194 J, and the molar heat of solution of NH4Cl is 0 J/mole.
