Simplify.
(5x1)/(x1)
My textbook says it can't be simplified any further. But can't it be simplified to 5?

ohhh noooo!
don't tell me you "cancelled" the 1 and then the x .
if you had 5(x1)/(x1) then the answer would be 5, but the way it reads, nothing can be done with it.
