what does the statment mean. The properties of salts are different from the properties of the elements that go into making them mean?

Take the salt sodium chloride (table salt). It dissolves in water, is a white crystalline substance, and conducts electricity when molten, or in solution.

Now the elements sodium, and chlorine, have none of those properties.

The statment means that the elements that form the salt are completely different when they aren't formed into salt. For example, when the element A, B, C are put together they can form salt, but when if you just looked at A it would be different from the salt because it wouldn't have B or C. Get the idea? If not then just go another web site and try to find it. Good luck!

Thank you!!!

IF you take sodium and chloride you get some salt. but if you only had sodium it wouldn't have the same properties as the salt it makes when mixed with chloride. this means once elements are combined they have different properties them when they are seperated.

Thank you!
