how do you solve this for x i keep getting stuck with x in too many places

4^x -6(2^x) -16 =0

i assume you have to use ln but i think im missing a step because i just get something which is more complicated than what you start with

thank you

well 4^x is 2^2x

then, let u= 2^x just to make it simple

so you have
u^2-6u-16=0
factor it, solve for u. Then put 2^x back in for u, solve for x.
