We did a lab on iodine sublimation. I don't really understand what is going on so can someone clarify it for me? My teacher also told me that there was deposition, was it that the crystal like substances appeared on the beaker or that the iodine was collecting in one area of the bottom of the beaker???

While you did not describe the procedure used, I think I know, essentially, what you did. Generally, in sublimation, one heats the I2 that is in the bottom of a vessel and lets the purple vapor move to the top of the vessel where a watch glass or other cover is placed. The cover often has some water or ice cubes in it (purely for cooling), the I2 vapor then redeposits (from the vapor state) onto the bottom of the cover. (A good way to purify a solid that sublimes.) So the deposition your teacher talked about was the stuff on the bottom side of the cover.
