The followoing question comes from my Algebra II book and it goes like this: Thirty percent of the sulfur desiccated. If 42 tons did not disccate, how much sulfur was there in all? How do I solve this problem? All work has to be shown.

Let X be the initial amount of sulfur.

0.30 X desiccated.
0.70 X = 42 tons

Solve for X, the original aomount.

X = 42 tons/0.7 = 60 tons
