I have been asked to draw a picture of myself on distracted paper (could this be newspaper)?

I have no idea what that means, but I guess that would make sense.

My mother used to paint in oils and acrylics, and when she started to sketch out a new idea, she often used charcoal on newspaper.

thanks for your help

You're welcome!

Yes, distracted paper commonly refers to using newspaper as your canvas to draw on. It adds an interesting and unique texture to your artwork. To begin drawing a picture of yourself on distracted paper (newspaper), follow these steps:

1. Gather your materials: You will need a sheet of newspaper, a pencil, an eraser, and any additional drawing materials you prefer (such as markers or colored pencils).

2. Choose a newspaper page: Select a page with minimal text, preferably with more images and blank spaces. This will provide you with a larger surface area to draw on.

3. Composition and positioning: Decide how you want to portray yourself in the drawing. Consider aspects like facial expression, pose, and any objects or backgrounds you want to include.

4. Lightly sketch the outline: Use your pencil to lightly sketch the basic shapes and proportions of your face, body, and other elements. Start with simple shapes like ovals, circles, and rectangles.

5. Detailing and shading: Gradually add details like facial features, the texture of hair or clothing, and any other intricate elements. You can also shade areas to create depth and dimension, using light and dark tones according to your desired effect.

6. Clean up and refine: Once you are satisfied with your drawing, carefully erase any unnecessary guidelines or stray marks. Pay attention to fine-tuning the details for a polished look.

7. Optional: Add color or additional effects: If desired, you can use markers or colored pencils to add color to your drawing. You can also experiment with other media to create additional textures or effects.

Remember, practice and experimentation are key to improving your drawing skills. Have fun and be creative with this unique drawing medium!
