Choose one theory spontaneous generation theory or cell theory. Select one statement that corresponds to the theory you want to refute or suppot.

I choose cell theory and the one statement that I choose is all living things are made up of cells.
Provide evidence for or against the statement you chose. Include proper APA citation of outside sources. Read another student's post and provide another piece of evidence of his or her claim.

Statement: All living things are made up of cells.

Evidence to support the statement: The cell theory states that all living organisms are composed of one or more cells, which are the basic structural and functional units of life. This theory has been widely accepted and supported by numerous scientific experiments and observations over the years.

One piece of evidence to support this statement is the experiment conducted by Matthias Schleiden and Theodor Schwann in the 19th century. They observed different types of plants and animals through microscopes and found that all these organisms were made up of cells. Their findings confirmed that cells are indeed the fundamental building blocks of life (Schleiden & Schwann, 1839).

Evidence to support another student's claim:

Another student's claim: Cells are the smallest units of life.

Additional evidence to support this claim can be found in the experiments conducted by Robert Hooke in the 17th century. Hooke used a compound microscope to study thin slices of cork and observed small box-like structures, which he named "cells" due to their resemblance to small occupied rooms in a monastery. His observations supported the idea that organisms are composed of small, individual units (Hooke, 1665).

Both of these experiments provide empirical evidence supporting the cell theory and its fundamental principle that all living things are made up of cells.
