not exactly sure what to do sense he's not English and he has degrees as part of his name what do I do about those? Can you show me how to use that author and which author I choose to use when I have several

Hold your cursor over the words CITING SOURCES in the left column and then click on whatever type of source you need help with. Many examples will show up. You will get two examples for each type of reference – one for the Works Cited page and one for the parenthetical (in-text) citation.

You can also see what a Works Cited page looks like – click on Sample Works Cited in the left column.

Hold on a minute, and I'll look for specifics on your question. Meantime, you should wander around this site.

How many authors? 2 or 3? 4 or more?

When citing a book with multiple authors in the Works Cited page, you typically choose the first author listed on the title page or cover of the book. This author's last name will be written first, followed by their first name and any middle names or initials. After the first author's name, you can use "et al." to represent the other authors.

For example, if you have a book with authors A. Smith, B. Johnson, and C. Brown, you would cite it like this:

Smith, A., et al.

Regarding your specific example with J. Jorge Klor de Alva, J.D. and Ph.D., you would follow a similar format. You still choose the first author listed, which is J. Jorge Klor de Alva. However, it's important to separate the academic degrees from the name using commas and periods.

The correct citation for this author would be:

Klor de Alva, J. Jorge, J.D., Ph.D.

Make sure to follow the punctuation and capitalization exactly as it appears in the author's name, including any spaces or special characters. Remember, the initials in the name are part of the author's name, not the degrees, so they should be kept in the correct order and format.

If there are more authors listed after J. Jorge Klor de Alva, you can still use "et al." to indicate that there are additional authors:

Klor de Alva, J. Jorge, J.D., Ph.D., et al.
