I have to do an ad analysis of alcohol. And I've decided to use a GREY GOOSE VODKA ad.

Here is one of the question I'm having trouble answering"

What type of characters are portrayed in this advertisement. (ie. age, gender, physical attributes, etc?)

I don't know how to answer because there are no people or characters in the ad. There's only a bottle of GREY GOOSE and a glass beside it.

If you have any suggestions on how I would go about answering this question please help.

Thank you very much. Greatly appreciated.

Is someone talking? Man or woman? What is he/she saying?

Is there music? What kind?

Well there is no music, no people because it's a magazine ad.

there is only a bottle of grey goose and a glass beside it.

Also, what colors are used? What do you think they signify?

Or is the ad in black, white, and shades of gray? What is the significance of this?

Is the glass empty? Why?

What's in the background? Or is there no background? (If there's no background, then it shouldn't look as if the bottle and glass are sitting on a table or other flat surface.)

You need to keep asking yourself WHY questions: Why did the designers choose to have this or that and not that or this?

Any of these?

When analyzing an ad like the GREY GOOSE VODKA ad, it's important to consider not only explicit characters but also implied or symbolic characters. In this case, since there are no explicit human characters in the ad, you can focus on implied or symbolic characters, such as the intended consumer or target audience.

To answer the question about the type of characters portrayed in the advertisement, you can start by analyzing the elements of the ad that may provide clues about the intended audience. Consider the following points:

1. Target audience: Think about the overall message communicated by the ad. Is it targeting a specific age group or demographic? For example, does it seem to appeal more to young adults, affluent individuals, or celebratory occasions?

2. Style and aesthetics: Look at the design, color scheme, and overall visual presentation. Are there any visual cues that might suggest the intended gender, age, or physical attributes of the target audience? For instance, is the ad designed to attract a sophisticated, fashionable, or trendy audience?

3. Lifestyle and context: Consider the setting and context in which the bottle and glass are placed. Does it imply a particular lifestyle or social situation? For example, is it pictured in a luxurious environment, a vibrant party scene, or a serene and sophisticated setting?

By analyzing these aspects, you can derive insights about the implied characters in the advertisement and make inferences about the intended target audience. Remember to support your analysis with specific examples and visuals from the ad itself.

Additionally, it can be helpful to conduct research on the brand and its primary consumer base to get a better understanding of the characteristics and preferences of the audience that GREY GOOSE VODKA typically targets. This information can provide valuable context to support your analysis.
