Journal Entry - May 25, 1620

Today, I find myself reflecting upon the peculiar encounters we have had with the unruly pirates that frequent these waters. As a member of Bradford's colony, our aim is to establish a new life in the New World, seeking religious freedom and peace. However, these pirates that seem to roam aimlessly across the seas strike me as an entirely different breed.

The first thing that struck me about these surly characters was their appearance and demeanor. They adorned themselves with worn, tattered clothing, contrasting sharply with our insistence on neatness and order. Their unkempt beards and weather-beaten faces were an obvious reflection of their rugged lifestyle. It is as if these pirates have bid farewell to any semblance of societal norms and taken up a life of lawlessness.

But, what shocked me the most was their disregard for authority and governance. These pirates seem utterly immune to any sense of order or respect for the laws that govern civilized societies. On countless occasions, we have witnessed their audacious acts of plunder, engaging in treacherous battles and preying upon unsuspecting vessels. Such actions are inconceivable to someone like me, who values structure and communal spirit.

The manners of these pirates are a world away from the principles we hold dear within our own colony. They lack the basic courtesies and conduct that we deem essential for the harmony of our community. They openly revel in drunken revelries, raising chaos wherever they go. Their language is filled with profanities and obscenities, contrasting sharply with our reverence for proper speech and thoughtful discourse.

In comparing these pirates to our own way of life, the differences are stark. We strive to create an environment of mutual respect, where the needs of the community outweigh the desires of the individual. Our reliance on communal decision-making, guided by democratic principles, fosters an atmosphere of harmony and cooperation. Conversely, the pirates seem to thrive on individualism, driven solely by personal gain without any consideration for the consequences of their actions.

In conclusion, encountering these pirates has been a fascinating experience, albeit one that has left me perplexed and somewhat perturbed. Their disregard for societal norms and the stark contrast in their manners to our own colonial values has served as a stark reminder of the importance of order, community, and the pursuit of a better, more just society.
