Ok, let's say Bob serves the ball to Sally, the ball didn't hit the table but it could've if Sally had let it. Would that be Bob's point of should they just keep playing? (Not for HW, just playing this in class) Thanks!!!!

sorry..i meant or not of

That is called an "obstruction" on Sally, and Bob gets the point.

Thanks bobpursley!

In a game of table tennis, if Bob serves the ball to Sally and the ball doesn't hit the table but could have if Sally had let it, it would generally be considered Bob's point and the play would stop. Official table tennis rules state that if the receiving player (Sally in this case) fails to make a legal return, it results in a point for the serving player (Bob).

To determine whether the ball would have hit the table, you can use the concept of the ball's trajectory. You can analyze various factors such as the height, speed, and spin of the ball, as well as the distance between Sally and the table. If, based on these factors, it is evident that the ball would have hit the table had Sally not intervened, then Bob would be awarded the point.

However, it's important to note that table tennis rules may vary depending on the specific scenario or any agreed-upon variations within a friendly game. Therefore, it's always a good idea to discuss and establish clear rules before playing to avoid any confusion.
