second writing assignment :)

this time i wrote the whole thing, please check it for me:

Pick a grocery store, and take notes on how the store is set up, and what factors you see affecting common food selections by the public.

my work:

There are many factors that I see affecting the common food selection by the public. To me, stores like Sam’s Club, BJ’s, and Costco are the most popular grocery stores for the common public. I have noticed that it is at stores like these where there are so many people, that most of the time you will not find a place to park. Whether it is a weekday or a weekend, these stores are always packed. There are many reasons why this is true.

One factor why these stores attract so much public is because they sell their products in a bigger package. For example, if you are buying a small bag of flour for about 2 dollars at a regular grocer store, you can buy a three times bigger bag at one of these stores for less than double the price. So you really are paying less and getting more. I think this is one of the major reasons why people shop at these stores.

Another reason why people come to these stores more than others is because they have their own memberships for gas. Usually gas is cheaper if you have a Sam’s Club membership than if you go to a nearby Shell or any other gas station. So when most people come here to buy gas, they also do their grocery for the week so they don’t have to worry about going to a local grocery store where prices will be higher.

My last reason for my claim is that in stores like Costco there is always a day or two where there are people giving out free samples to different products. Usually on the weekends, these stores offer free samples to foods like, frozen pizza samples, a new type of cracker, trail mix, vitamin drinks etc. These are the type of things that people go and try because they have nothing to lose. And the truth is that once most people take a bite to a sample, they want to purchase that product. This is a great way of attracting more people to these stores.

Your essay is good, but it doesn't answer one of the questions posed by the prompt.

take notes on how the store is set up, and what factors you see affecting common food selections by the public.

Although you discussed the cost advantages of these stores and the free samples, you didn't tell how the store is set up.

For instance, the grocery stores that I frequent have milk, eggs, and dairy products at the back. That's because most people buy these every shopping trip. But in order to get there, they have to pass through the rest of the store.

What kinds of foods are frequently at the front of the store? In my stores, it's often flowers, candy, snacks, and other impulse items.

Now, consider how one of the stores you mentioned is set up and how it may affect the choices shoppers make.

yes you're right, i forgot that part

thanks i will add it

Your writing assignment looks good overall. You have identified some key factors that affect common food selections by the public, specifically in relation to stores like Sam's Club, BJ's, and Costco.

However, there are a few suggestions for improvement:

1. Consider starting your introduction with a brief overview of the grocery store you chose and its setup, before delving into the factors affecting food selections. This will provide a clearer context for your analysis.

2. It would be helpful to include specific observations about the store's layout, organization, and product placement. For example, you could mention how the items are categorized, the presence of promotional displays, or the arrangement of fresh produce and packaged goods.

3. Provide more specific examples to support your reasons. For instance, instead of just mentioning that these stores sell products in bigger packages, you could give specific examples of popular items available in bulk, such as paper towels, cleaning products, or snack foods.

4. Consider expanding on the impact of cost-saving opportunities provided by these stores. You mentioned cheaper gas prices with membership, but you could also discuss other cost-saving benefits, such as discounts on non-food items (e.g., electronics, clothing) or coupon offers.

5. Try to make your conclusion more concise and summarizing. You could briefly restate your main points and their importance in influencing common food choices, ideally tying them back to the grocery store's setup and factors you observed.

Overall, your writing shows a good understanding of the topic and the factors affecting food selections at the chosen grocery store. With some minor adjustments to provide more specific examples and further develop your points, your assignment will be even stronger.

Your writing is well-structured and provides a good analysis of the factors affecting common food selections by the public in grocery stores like Sam's Club, BJ's, and Costco. Here are some suggestions to further enhance your work:

1. Provide more specific observations: Include specific details about the layout and organization of the grocery store you visited. For example, you could discuss the arrangement of product categories, the presence of promotional displays, or the placement of popular items.

2. Support your claims with data or examples: While your points are reasonable, it would be helpful to support them with specific data or examples. For instance, you mention that purchasing larger packages at these stores offers better value, but it would be beneficial to provide an example with actual price comparisons.

3. Consider including counterarguments: To make your analysis more well-rounded, you could address potential counterarguments. For example, some people may argue that the membership fees of these stores could be a deterrent for some customers. You could briefly acknowledge this argument and provide a counterpoint to support your claim.

4. Expand on the influence of free samples: The point you make about free samples is a great insight. However, you could elaborate on the psychological impact of this marketing strategy. Discuss how it encourages impulse buying and how it can influence customers' food selections and purchasing decisions.

Overall, your response is coherent and provides a good analysis of the factors influencing common food selections in these stores. By implementing the suggestions mentioned above, you can further strengthen your writing and improve the overall quality and depth of your analysis.
