Find the circumference and area of cirlce with a radius of 3 feet.

Let n stand for pi

Circumference=2n x (3)=6 or 18.84 or 18 6/7

I understand how to calulate the circumference. The answer that the book gives of 18 6/7.

I am not clear where the 6/7 is coming from?

I tried it several times and I can't get the 6/7.

The fractional form of pi is 22/7.

2*pi*3 = 2*3*(22/7) = 6*(22/7) = 132/7
Now divide (do it manually),
132/7 and you will get 1 into 13 with 6 left over, bring down the 2 and 62/7 = 8 with a remainder of 6. So the answer is 18 and 6/7.

To find the circumference of a circle with a radius of 3 feet, you can use the formula:

Circumference = 2 * π * radius

Given that the radius is 3 feet, you can substitute the value in the formula:

Circumference = 2 * π * 3

Now, you mentioned that you're using "n" to represent π, so let's use that instead:

Circumference = 2 * n * 3

Simplifying further:

Circumference = 6 * n

So, it seems you have correctly calculated the circumference as 6n.

Now, the answer in the book is given as 18 6/7. To understand where this fraction is coming from, we can convert the value of n to a decimal approximation.

The commonly used approximation for π is 3.14. So, if we substitute this value into the formula, we get:

Circumference = 6 * 3.14 = 18.84

Now, let's convert the decimal value to a mixed fraction.

The whole number part is 18, and the fractional part can be obtained by finding the fractional equivalent of the decimal. To do this, we divide the decimal by 1/7 (since we are looking for a fraction with a denominator of 7), and simplify the result.

18.84 ÷ (1/7) = 18.84 * 7 = 131.88

So, the fractional equivalent of 0.84 can be written as 6/7.

Hence, the answer in the book is given as 18 6/7, which is the mixed fraction form of the decimal approximation.
