I needed help with these few questions on the book Absalom, Absalom! [Ch.1-2]

1. Why is the book named Absalom, Absalom! What does this mean?

The title refers to the Biblical story of Absalom, a son of David who rebelled against his father (then King of Israel) and who was killed by David's general Joab in violation of David's order to deal gently with his son. [I got this from google]

2. Did Ellen Coldfeild want to marry Stupen or not?

I don't know about this one, but I think that she didn't want to because it said she wept on her wedding day (which some regular brides do) but Stupen was pelted with dirt and vegetable refuse so he is obviously not very liked by the town.

Are these correct? Thanks for the help!

I haven't read this novel, but if you read that part carefully, you should be able to decide why she cried and if she wanted to marry Stupen.
