Each carriage of a train has 45 people which includes 3 stewards and 1 guard. The train has 12 carriages. How many passengers are on the train?

How many passengers are in each car? You can figure that out from the first sentence. ahere's how:

Three of the 45 people per car are not passengers. The rest are. How many is that?

Then multiply that number of passengers by the number of carriages.

So do you go ;

42x12?

yes

41x12=492 passengers

12x3=36 stewards
12x1=12 gaurds
so in all the train is carrying 540 people.

41 x 12 is the answer they are looking for. I was wrong when I wrote that three on each carriage were not passengers. A Duh moment

I know this is from 2009 but this helped me alot! Thx

To find the number of passengers on the train, we need to first calculate the number of stewards and the guard in total.

In each carriage, there are 3 stewards and 1 guard, giving a total of 3 + 1 = 4 staff members in each carriage.

Since there are 12 carriages, we can multiply the number of staff members in each carriage, 4, by the number of carriages, 12.

4 staff members × 12 carriages = 48 staff members in total.

To find the number of passengers, we subtract the number of staff members from the total number of people on the train.

In each carriage, there are 45 people, including the staff members. So, the total number of passengers on the train is 45 × 12 = 540 people.

But since we already counted the staff members, we need to subtract them from the total.

540 people (total) - 48 staff members = 492 passengers on the train.

Therefore, there are 492 passengers on the train.
