Through a chemical test how do you distinguish between iron and iron sulphide

  • Chemistry -

    Iron will fizz with an acid (e.g. hydrochloric acid) giving off hydrogen.

    Iron sulfide with acid will give a gas with the smell of rotten eggs, hydrogen sulfide.
