Was Westernization the best policy for China, Japan, Egypt, and the Ottoman Empire?

i don't need a direct answer, just links to websites that could help me out with this. google didn't come up with anything for me.

Doesn't that depend upon your point of view? These countries/empire resisted Westernization for many years. Obviously, the people didn't want their culture infused with western ideas.

I suggest you research the history of each of these places. Learn why they didn't want to be westernized -- and then look at these places today. What do you think? Are they better off being westernized?

Another thought -- take a close look at the Islamic movement in Egypt today. There the prevailing philosophy is to reject western modernism and go back to more fundamental Muslim principles.

Who is to decide the best policy for any culture? The natives or Westerners?
