Besides, this is at most a grade 9 type algebra question.

Anyway, why don't you substitute the value of x given in the second equation into the first.
It solves quite easily.
See if you get x=3 and y = -1

Ummm! I wasn't having a hissy fit! sorry,I have a low self esteam and I really wasn't looking at how I was spelling.
