I can't figure out (-64)^1/3. Any help would be great. and (-8)^-2/3

an exponent of 1/3 corresponds with a cube root just like

an exponents of 1/2 corresponds with a square root

so (-64)^1/3 is the cube root of -64 which is -4

for (-8)^-2/3
recall that (-8)^-2/3 = 1/((-8)^+2/3
= 1/[((-8)^1/3)^2]
= 1/(-2)^2
= 1/4
