how do Al and Cl ionically bond with each other? I think its AlCl3 am i right?

Yes, although some books now write it as Al2Cl6; i.e, the AlCl3 you wrote as a monomer actually exists as the dimer (two monomers together). AlCl3 is the correct empirical formula.
