please help with the steps

36+9%3x5=

do you multiply 3x5 first? 15
36+9=45
45%15=3
Please advise
Thank you
also the percent sign is supposed to be division sign

It depends where the parentheses are. Is it:

(36 + 9)/(3 * 5)

36 + 9/(3 * 5)

[(36 + 9)/3] * 5

36 + (9/3) * 5

Here are some sites indicating the order of math processes.

I hope this helps. Thanks for asking.

You have to use parentheses to indicate the order of operations; otherwise different answers are possible. For example, if "5" is upposed to be "/", then

36 + (9/3)x5 = 51 ,
(36+9)/(3x5)= 3
or [36+(9/3)]x5 = 195

Unless you use parentheses () and sometimes brackets [] also, there is no way to tell which of these answers is the one that they are looking for. Always perform the operations operations withing parenthese first.

When mathematical problems are written in a textbook or problem sheet, and not in a single line of type, sometimes the order of operations is evident from how the numbers and fractions are arranged on the page. Not so here.

unfortunately there are no brackets or parenthesis to show which to do first...

it looks just like this:

36 +9 / 3x5
there are no parenthesis it is just a line of numbers with the signs...

This looks to me like a fraction.

The numerator would be 36+9 and
the denominator would be 3x5.
The answer would be 45 / 15, which is really just a division problem
45 divided by 15 which would give you an answer of 3.

follow the order of PEMDAS-paranthesis, exponent, multiplication/division, and addition/ subtraction

thank you!

To solve the given equation, follow these steps:

Step 1: Evaluate the expression in the parentheses first: 3 multiplied by 5 equals 15.
So, the equation becomes:
36 + 9%15

Step 2: Since the "%" sign was meant to be a division sign, divide 9 by 15:
9 ÷ 15 = 0.6

Step 3: Add the result from step 2 to 36:
36 + 0.6 = 36.6

Therefore, the answer to the equation 36 + 9%3x5 (evaluated correctly) is 36.6.

It's always important to follow the order of operations (PEMDAS/BODMAS) when solving equations to ensure the correct answer.
