How does an individual struggle to gain freedom against the restraints of society?

How should I answer this essay question?
Could you direct me on how to answer this essay question?
I was thinking about how individuals rebel against society to gain freedom, but I think this is kind of the same meaning as the question.
I really don't know how to answer this essay question.

    One gains freedom by Knowing your free will, keeping your sights on it, and never giving up on attaining it.

    There are numerous examples in history on this.
