Hi. I have trouble calculating money or change for purchases mentally. Could you give me some strategies to help? My difficulty is also doing it quickly so I know the right amount to give/check for.

Thanks!

The key to learning anything well is PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!

You could use grocery store ads, for instance and several dollars in bills and coins. Practice counting out the money for one item. Then, try for two items, and so on.

Use your estimating skills. How many dollar bills will you need for three items -- costing $0.98, $1.75, and $2.10? Rounding these itmes -- you have $1.00 + $2.00 + $2.00. That looks like it takes a $5.00 bill.

Try this with restaurant menus, clothing and other types of ads.

As you become familiar with actually working with money, you'll get better at it and find you will become faster and more accurate.
