    If K is the single one would it still be a metal?

    also if the question asks for metals does it mean transitional and metaloids

    If the first row is k on the left, and S on the right, then K is not a metal (hydrogen).

    Metals mean any element that lose electrons readily, which includes transitional metals. Metaloids are not commonly included as metals.
