How do i write out a reference for the following:

It is a poem (it has an author and date) in one of my books (the book cover has a different authors then the one in the poem)

this is what i think but i am not sure:

authors name (date). title. In title of book (edition). State: publisher

or should I also add the other authors ?

If you are using MLA guidelines, go to this website

and hold your cursor over CITING SOURCES in the left column and then click on Essay in a Collection. You are citing a poem in an anthology, so this is the form you'd use.

APA doesn't seem to have a form for this type of reference, probably because APA is for social studies (sociology, psychology, etc.).

To write a reference for a poem within a book with different authors, you can follow the general format for APA style references. Here's how you can do it:

Author's Last Name, First Initial. (Date). Title of Poem. In Editor's First Initial. Last Name (Ed.), Title of Book (edition, if applicable, p. page number(s) of the poem). City, State: Publisher.

For example, if the author of the poem is Smith, the book editor is Johnson, and the book is published in 2021, your reference could look like this:

Smith, J. (2021). Title of Poem. In Johnson, E. (Ed.), Title of Book (2nd ed., p. 45). New York, NY: Publisher.

Note that if the poem doesn't have any specific page numbers, you can omit the "p. page number(s) of the poem" part.

You don't necessarily need to include the other authors on the book cover unless they are relevant to the specific poem you are referencing. However, if they have contributed to the specific poem or if their names are mentioned in the citation information of the poem itself, you should include them.

Remember to consult the specific style guide (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.) recommended by your institution or the publication you are writing for, as citation formats may differ slightly.
