solve for x:

1. x = (m/n)x + 2

2. x = [2/x] - [2/(2x+1)] = 1/(x+1)

I don't understand how to properly isolate X to get the value of x...please help!

1. [1- (m/n)]x = 2

Now divide both sides by [1- (m/n)]

2. You have set x equal to two different terms that are not the same. You may have copied the problem wrong. I will ignore the [2/x] - [2/(2x+1)] .

If x = 1/(x+1), then
x(x+1) = 1
x^2 + x -1 = 0
Use the quadratic equation for the two possible value of x. One is
x = [-1 + sqrt 5]/2
