Hello,

Does anyone know what colors( excluding black and gray) would communicate a solemn mood?
I thought maybe different shades of yellow.
For the reason blue and reds did not make sense nor did green, and violet is associated with royal, or majestic, so neither did that.

Thank You

Well If you use dark dark violet which is almost black in shading or a green shading like...spinich green wouldn't that create a somber mood?

(I don't specifically paint so I'm relying on what I've seen in paintings as I mainly draw ;D)

Think about the songs you have heard, "Am I Blue" "Mood Indigo"

Shades of blue , tending toward the blue greys and purples have always been associated with being unhappy or solemn.

Colors that are commonly associated with a solemn mood, excluding black and gray, include deep shades of blue and purple. These colors evoke a sense of sadness and contemplation. Other colors that can convey a solemn mood are deep shades of brown and dark green. However, it's important to note that individual perceptions of color can vary, so what one person may find solemn, others may interpret differently. It's always helpful to consider the context and the emotions that you want to convey when selecting colors for a particular purpose.

Yes, you are correct that different shades of yellow would not typically communicate a solemn mood. When thinking about colors that convey a solemn mood, it's important to consider the psychological associations and cultural symbolism attached to different colors.

Although yellow is often associated with brightness, energy, and positivity, it may not effectively convey a solemn mood on its own. Instead, as you mentioned, colors like blue, red, green, and violet are typically more closely related to different emotional states.

In the case of blue, certain shades like navy blue or dark blue can evoke a sense of seriousness or somberness. Blue is often associated with calmness, tranquility, and depth, but the specific shade and context can influence the emotional response.

On the other hand, red tends to evoke strong emotional responses and is often associated with emotions like passion, anger, and intensity. While it may not convey a solemn mood directly, darker shades of red such as maroon or burgundy can contribute to a more subdued or serious atmosphere.

Green is commonly associated with nature, growth, and freshness, and it may not naturally evoke a solemn mood. However, darker greens with more muted or smoky tones, like olive green or forest green, could potentially convey a more solemn atmosphere.

As for violet or purple, while there are indeed associations with royalty or a majestic atmosphere, deeper shades of purple, such as eggplant or plum, can also have a somber or contemplative quality when used appropriately.

Ultimately, when considering colors to communicate a solemn mood, it's important to consider the specific shade, context, and cultural associations, as these factors can contribute to the emotional response elicited.
