For a history project, I need to make a memorial for James Chaney, Michael Schwerner, Andrew Goodman. It needs to be extremely creative, yet I can't think of anything.

A little background info:

James Chaney, Michael Schwerner, Andrew Goodman were civil rights workers who were killed during the Mississippi Burnings.

I was thinking of a science fair tri-fold board and decorating it but I don't know what I would put on it.

Please help and let me know if you have any ideas.

Thank you very much. I really appreciate your help.

If you're going to do a tri-fold, you could devote one-third to background biographical information about these three young men; one-third to the voter registration situation in Mississippi as it was in the 1960s, as well as what these three envisioned for the future; one-third to what happened to them, including when and how their bodies were found.

Or play with ideas like these and move them around.

=)

Jacob,

One caution: don't use wikipedia as your SOLE source. Not all the "facts" presented there are correct. Do as Writeacher suggested and use all the links in wikipedia, as they probably provide accurate information. If you find any contradictory information, do more research or don't use the data from wikipedia. Many teachers won't accept wikipedia as a source, so check with your advisor first.

Thank you very much, Writeacher and LehrerinSagt. I really appreciate your help.

Creating a memorial for James Chaney, Michael Schwerner, and Andrew Goodman can be a meaningful and creative project. Since you mentioned using a science fair tri-fold board, I can provide you with a few ideas for what you can include on it.

1. Background Information: Dedicate one panel to providing background information about James Chaney, Michael Schwerner, and Andrew Goodman. Include details about their activism, their role as civil rights workers, and their involvement in the Mississippi Burnings.

2. Biographical Information: Use another panel to highlight the personal lives of each individual. Include their birthdates, family backgrounds, and any significant experiences or achievements they had prior to becoming civil rights activists.

3. Civil Rights Movement: Describe the larger context of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s on one panel. Include information about the challenges faced by African Americans in Mississippi regarding voter registration and the efforts made by activists like Chaney, Schwerner, and Goodman to rectify these injustices.

4. Impact and Legacy: Use a panel to explore the impact and legacy of Chaney, Schwerner, and Goodman. Discuss the significance of their deaths in galvanizing support for the Civil Rights Movement and the subsequent legal actions taken against those responsible for their murders. You can also explore the ongoing legacy of their activism and the continued fight for civil rights.

5. Creative Visuals: To make your memorial board visually appealing, consider including photos of the activists, newspaper clippings, or relevant historical images. You can also add quotes from Chaney, Schwerner, and Goodman or other notable civil rights leaders. Use colors, symbols, and fonts that reflect the theme of social justice and equality.

Remember to cite your sources properly, including both offline and online resources. As LehrerinSagt mentioned, while Wikipedia can be a starting point, it's important to cross-reference information from reliable sources to ensure accuracy.

Good luck with your project, and I hope these suggestions help you create a meaningful and creative memorial for James Chaney, Michael Schwerner, and Andrew Goodman!
