can someone help me set this word problem up into equations so i can solve. I don't want the answer just if you could help me with how to set it up. thanks

The base of ladder is 14feet away from the wall. The top of the ladder is 17feet from the floor.Find the length of ladder to the nearest thousandth.

Use pythagaras.

B^2+H^2=L^2

I GET A DECIMAL POINT BUT I GET 6.71 AFTER ROUNDING AM I DOING IT CORRECTLY:

14^2+17^2=L^2
196+289=L^2
485=L^2
SQRT 485 = SQRT(L^2)
6.708203932499369 =L
6.71=L

OK I agree with the value for L^2

A quick reality check 6x6=?

Or could you have a ladder that is 6ft long standing 14ft away from a wall yet still reach it?

BUT SEE FOR THIS ONE THERE ARE ONLY 4 POSSIBLE ANSWERS. TO CHOOSE FROM AND I AM NOT GETTING EVEN CLOSE.

A) 19.897FT
B)24.324FT
C)21.002FT
D)22.023FT

reduce the lowest terms 223inche snad 17feet
