Hi, I'm having trouble understanding this sentence...

"It comes upon one with new force in the pauses of the night that the Chaldeans were a desert-bred people."

I don't know understandy why the last part of the sentence starts with "that" is in there, please help.

When you ignore the prepostional phrases in the sentence, you will see that the last part of the sentence follows, "It comes upon one...", which needs the word "that" to have a clear meaning.

Well explained, Tammy. We all need to remember that prepositional phrases interrupt sentences in all kinds of places and often contribute to grammatical errors if we're not careful!

Congrats!

=)

Thank you.

You're welcome! I'm glad I could help. Understanding how different parts of a sentence function can definitely make it easier to comprehend the overall meaning. Prepositional phrases can sometimes disrupt the flow of a sentence, so it's important to identify the main subject and verb to understand the core message.
