Temp - 650

Pressure - 760mm Hg
mass - 0.927g
volume - ?

I need to work out the volume

I know that Pv=nRT but I just can't figure this out. I've been told the answer is 176cm3 but I don't get that. Can someone please explain this to me.

You don't have enough information. You need to know the molecular weight of the gas, so that the mass can be converted to moles (n). You also need to say what the units of temperature are. Is is 650 C or 650 K?

Since PV = n RT, then
V = P /(nRT)
If you provide n in moles and P in atm (760 mm Hg = 1 atm), then the gas constant is
R = 8.205*10^-2 liter-atm/(mole K)

The gas is 2.5 moles and the temp is in C.

I make it 2.5 moles * 0.08205 * 923 =189.33037

1atm/189.33037 = 189.3

So the volume should be 189.3

Is that right?

Thanks, I think I've got it now

I don't believe that 2.5 moles of any gas can have a mass of .927 grams. Something is wrong with your mole calculation.

I did it wrong, I've worked it out now, thanks

You're welcome! I'm glad you were able to figure it out. It's important to double-check your calculations to ensure accuracy. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!
