explain why a person will die if their heart stops beating for a few minutes

People die when their heart stops beating because it has stopped pumping blood throughout the body. The heart is the pump that distributes the blood through the entire body, also distributing nutrients and oxygen that has dissolved into the blood system. It is also very important to have blood circulating through the brain because it provides not only the circulating nutrients, but more importantly, the oxygen, which is essential to brain function.
