The syllables I thought were stressed I put parentheses around, I have no idea what I am doing!!! Plz help!!!Some of them I left blank cause this is so hard!!! Are they even right??? :(

Stressed syllables are those that you say a little more loudly than the others.

DIF-fi-cult (you say the first syllable a little more loudly than the other two)

i-MAG-ine

fa-MIL-iar

etc.

Let me know what you think about the others.

=)

You can also tell by the dictionary entry for each word. Here's an example:
http://www.answers.com/relative

When you go to that dictionary entry (whether online or in a print dictionary), you'll see these things above the definitions:

rel·a·tive (rĕl'ə-tĭv)
The first is showing you how to divide the word into syllables; the second (in parentheses) is giving you the pronunciation. See the ' mark after "rel"? That mark is telling you that the first syllable is stressed and the others aren't. REL-a-tive

=)

Thank you right teacher! = )

Sry i spelled your name wrong, now this is what I think of the others:
com-PAN-ions
WON-der-ful
im-PA-tience
COUN-try-side
for-GOT-ten
the U in universe
the U in universal
the AC and the DENT in accident
the AC and the DENT in accidental
the HIS in history
the STOR in historical

That is what i think each of them should be!

All are correct except these three:

~~the U in universal should be VER
~~the AC and the DENT in accident should be just AC
~~the AC and the DENT in accidental should be just DENT

Let me know if you have questions.

=)

Answer asap cause my mother needs to get on the computer!
And I don't want to get in trouble but I do appreciate all of your help!
=}

Look at universal and accident again.

Historical is divided his tor i cal. and you are right, the accent is on TOR.

Should the stressed syllables in universal just be VER or U and VER?

And now is the streesed syllable in historical be stor or just tor?

Writeacher I still need your help I am confused a little!!!! = O

GuruBlue is right about his-TOR-i-cal.

"Universal" should be u-ni-VER-sal

=)
