Why is it important that Christopher Columbus found America?

Due to his discovery of the Americas, it kicked off the age of exploration for the Europeans. Soon this led to the colonization of the north and south Americas. Hope that helped =P

Did he discover America? I thought there were "indians" here before him. Maybe he found it for the Europeans. Then the Europenans took all of it from the indians who lived on it. Such is life.
