Nice try but it's hard to make heads or tails of the structure. The amine group is the NH2 on line 4 from the top. I think you can find that one ok. An amide functional group will be a
-------O
-----//
----C
-----\
------N-R2
where R2 may be 2 H atoms, or 1 H atom and another anything, or no H atoms and 2 of anything else. If you can't find that, let me know and I will try to find it on the web so you can see it. I have the structure in front of me from my copy of The Merck Index. If you have a copy of that the -CONH-R group is easy to see.

i am still lost, did you see the 2nd message i sent, the elements are almost in line here - so it might be clearer.... but sorry, i am still lost...

The amine group, NH2, is on line 4 of the first post and line 3 of the second post. From the structure you have in front of you, perhaps you can find the C=O

C-benzene ring

Do you find the NH2 group on your lines 4 and 3 of the first and second post.

is the amine group...

__O
_||
__C-CH-NH2 ?

Yes, it's the NH2 group on the right end with the question mark.

if you could do a search in google for "tocainide -- 2D structure" you will find a diagram which mught be easier to refer to.

so the amine group is ONLY NH2 nothing else?

right. (That is a primary amine. There are secondary and tertiary amines but the NH2 group on your compound is a primary amine. I don't see any secondary or tertiary amines on your compound).
You still must look for the amide group.

SO,

NH2 is the AMINE group (does it have a name?) and the AMIDE group is ...
__O
_||
__C-CH-NH2 (does it have a name?) - AM I RIGHT HERE?

The NH2 group is the amine group. I can't tell from your post if you have the amide group or not. Here is a site you can check.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tocainide
You can see the NH2 group sticking up on the right hand side of the molecule.
Here are directions to the amide group. In these structures a carbon atom is at the intersection of a \ and / so
\/\/\/\/\ is a string of C atoms: at the apex (top) is a carbon atom and the bottom of the V is a carbon atom. Now look at the C atom attached to the NH2 group. We will number that 1. Go the the left to the next C atom. That one is 2 and has a =O on it although the O is point downward. To the left of that C is a N with an H on top. That -HN-C=O is the amide group.

must HN be together? or can it be...

____O
____||
N---C
|
H ?

You have drawn a secondary amide properly (N has must have something else attached to it since it has three bonds. You have one to the C, one to H and there is one more. If it is attached to another H then it is a primary amide. If it is attached to another group of some kind --another C, for example, it is a secondary amide.)

Thanx, I understand - finally!
