I think the biggest event that shaped it is greatly increased immigration in the last twenty years, especially Pakistani. THe numbers of Islamics have grown greatly in a short period.

The number of Muslims has also grown because of their relatively higher birthrate compared with other religious groups.

thank you everyone :)

To answer the question about the events and figures that have shaped the development of Islam in the United States, it is important to understand that there have been various factors that have influenced the growth and evolution of the Islamic community in the country. Here are a few key points to consider:

1. Immigration: Increased immigration from Muslim-majority countries, particularly in the last few decades, has significantly contributed to the growth of the Muslim population in the United States. People from countries such as Pakistan, Iran, Bangladesh, and Somalia, among others, have migrated to the United States, bringing their Islamic faith with them. This has played a crucial role in shaping and diversifying the Muslim community.

2. African American Muslims: The presence of African Americans within the Islamic community in the United States has a long history, dating back to the time of slavery. Figures like Noble Drew Ali, who founded the Moorish Science Temple of America, and later prominent figures like Malcolm X and Imam Warith Deen Mohammed played a significant role in shaping the development of Islam among African American communities.

3. Conversion: Another important factor in the growth of Islam in the United States is the conversion of individuals from different religious backgrounds. People from various walks of life and religious affiliations have chosen to embrace Islam and contribute to the development of the Muslim community in the country.

4. Social Movements and Civil Rights: The civil rights movement in the 1960s had a significant impact on the religious landscape in the United States, including on Islam. As African Americans fought for their rights and equality, Islam became an attractive option for some seeking social justice, leading to an increase in conversions and the emergence of Islamic organizations and institutions.

5. Global Events: Certain global events have also influenced the perception and understanding of Islam in the United States. The Iranian Revolution in 1979 and the subsequent hostage crisis, as well as the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks, had a profound impact on shaping the view of Islam in American society.
