I do not underdtand the steps?? Do I find a common denominator for all the fractions?

when I clear the parenthesis do I distribute 2/3 or do I just take out the parenthesis?
First, distribute the 2/3 to the parentheses. You don't need a common denominator here because it's multiplication. Now you have:
14/24 - 8x/3 - 5/8 = 3/8. One method to do here is what DrBob said, and multiply everything by 24 to get whole numbers. You would have:
14-64x-15=9, so x=-10/64, or -5/8. The other way is much longer, I would just learn that way.

Belinda's solution is a good one up until she reduces the fraction in the final answer. -10/64 reduces to -5/32 not -5/8.
