Homework Help: Social Studies: World Issues: Should Kids Worry About Grades?
by Paul Waterman
Grades are important but not the ultimate achievement. When people leave and
get employment often they are graded by their performance. I think that the
most important aspect of this is the individuals own ambition. Many people
have acheived amazing results - but they get this by ambition. The desire to
suceed makes individuals work hard to acheive their own goals. The extra
hour here and there studying can make the difference. The discipline in ones
self control - to not being easily led from the 'goal' can and will make the
difference. People accept rejection in many different ways. I think the
saying 'putting all of your eggs in one basket' is a good thing to
remember. An example could be someone who wants to succeed in a given field
and if they do not get the grade they may view themselves as a failure.
How many students end their lives because they feel their life is not worth
living - and they cannot accept the failure, I would say this - People
should have dreams - but keep them in perspective, if you fail to get the
grades you need - diversify to something else. There is money to be made in
this world without being einstein! All you need is some basic skill and
understanding of the skill required. I use a motto I learned when I was very
young, "There is no such thing in this world as a free lunch" Plenty of
people fall victim to get rich schemes - Remember if it sounds to good to be
true - It usually is.
Once you have found the 'skill' do some market research locally - If you
want to succeed, you will. Lastly do not be ashamed or feel let down by your
grades, use the saying "I can and I will" be positive and positive things
will happen. Do not take out loans to make your skill succeed and do not
gamble.
