Homework Help: Social Studies: World History: The Titanic

by Lindsay Stone

Imagine on the Titanic all the people, now picture the life boats being only half full, leaving hundreds still aboard as the ship sinks to it’s watery grave. So many died, and it could have been prevented. Karolina never dreamed that the great vessel could go down, but she was there she saw the boat hit the iceberg. Stunned for a moment but quick to react everyone thought she was great, except Karolina. This is just some of the things that happen in the book Survival! Titanic.

Karolina is a girl aboard the Titanic she is the main character in this book.

Karolina was a young girl whose parents have both died, now living with her Aunt Rose. Karolina is a smart girl who is always thinking of others and helping as much as possible. When they hit the iceberg she knew that this ship was going down. She was up on the deck so she saw it all happen. People didn’t think much of it when they struck. Some were kicking chunks of ice around like soccer. She took action right away Karolina went to go get her Aunt and then she went back to the cabin to get the luggage leaving her Aunt to wait for her on the deck until she returned, but much to Karolina’s surprise there was no Aunt Rose waiting for her when she came back. Karolina’s new friend Gavin, a young boy her own age that is a steward on the ship helped her find a boat so she would live to tell the story. Reluctant to live her newfound love she climbed aboard. After many endless, dark hours of waiting on the rough waters a rescue ships light appeared in the foggy night air. With tears streaking their faces the survivors climbed the rescuer boat the Carpathia she was overwhelmed to see none other than Aunt Rose they hugged and kissed and then to her surprise stepping onto the vessel was Gavin frozen but still alive. She couldn’t have been more happy right then.

Karolina was always very quick to react under tough circumstances.

Like the rest Karolina never thought that the ship would sink. She saw it happen she was on the deck. People would not believe that they were going to sink, they just didn’t want to. She thought for a minute the boat was going to sink but then Gavin reminded her of all the safety measures on the boat. Karolina was ashamed for thinking that, then went back to her room. Gavin promised that he would come get her if they needed to evacuate. But as she returned to her room she could no longer hear the soft rumble of the engines. Karolina kept telling herself that it was okay but she still didn’t feel quite sure. Then she heard a knock on the door she jumped up and ran to see Gavin standing at the door. She felt a sudden rush of fear and woke her Aunt and walked to the boat deck. She was so scared but tried to be brave.

Karolina had a lot of people who cared for her these are just a few.

Gavin liked Karolina a lot from the moment he met her. He wanted so badly for her to live that he gave up his place on the boat so that she could survive. He showed he cared by kissing her farewell. He gave her his life vest because she can’t swim and he could. Another person who really cares for her is her Aunt Rose sometimes she can be mean or bossy, but as corny as it may sound she only did it because she cared for Karolina and wanted her to be safe. Aunt Rose did not want to get on the lifeboat until Karolina returned from getting the bags. The stewards told her that everyone would get on and she believed them and hurried on. She did not stop crying the whole long wait for a rescue ship. But once she saw Karolina on the boat those tears became tears of joy.

Imagine the Titanic again, a little better now right. Just think how many people died and it could have been prevented. Karolina was a very brave girl she has lost her parents and she almost lost her Aunt and new friend. She had a strong will to win and not die. As the boat was sinking so many people would have given up all hope of surviving this massive disaster, but Karlolina had so much hope and never lost faith that she or anyone she cared for would pass away. Remember always wear your life vest.
