Homework Help: Social Studies: World History: Newtown

by Nikki Doley

2000 years ago Newtown was occupied by Romans these people left a mark on the village forever the railway line that runs through Wickham also runs through Newtown this railway line was excavated in the 1970s.

The village of Newtown is smaller than Wickham and therefore has fewer shops. Newtown has: 1 Church and 1 Methodist church, a pub, a newsagents and grocery, a recreation ground, a village hall, a infant school and many houses and farms. The village of Wickham is a larger village therefore it has a larger population than Newtown. I think that the Romans chose to use this piece of land because it had good soil so they could grow better crops to eat and trade. It has hilly pieces of land easy to defend from enemies and it also has flat pieces easy to build houses on.

Wickham is different from Newtown. Wickham is more of an industrial and retail village. While Newtown is an agricultural and residential village. They both have religious buildings and village halls. Wickham has heath and emergency services while Newtown doesn't. Newtown doesn't have a fresh source of water while Wickham has a river. Both villages have a school although Newtown school is for Newtown, Soberton and Boarhunt children while Wickham School is just for Wickham children. Both villages have a local pub and shop although Wickham has more shops than Newtown. Wickham unlike Newtown has a restaurant. In conclusion both places are classed as villages but are very different.
