Homework Help: Social Studies: World History: The Endeavour Voyage of Australia
The Endeavour had many great significances in its voyage which helped future sailors with their voyages. Scurvy was a major disease which affected many sailors, much of it was picked up while in Batavia. Captain Cook cleverly prevented this sickness by demonstrating that eating onions and sauerkraut wasn't that bad and stopped scurvy, by eating it himself and making his officers eat it, this showed exceptional leadership abilities. This obviously worked because the crew liked it so it was then rationed. Cook brought onboard his great navigation skills, which resulted in his charts being used 250 years after his voyage. He also claimed the great south land for the British. Little did he know that his discoveries, great laedership skills and expert navigation would affect people for many years ahead.
