Homework Help: Social Studies: World History: Boomerangs

Boomerangs were used by Australian aborigines. They were sometimes used as weapons and also used in battles against other tribes.

Throwing Stick

A throwing stick was a weapon used by aborigines. Unlike returning boomerangs a throwing stick would hover along the ground for upto 200mtrs and it would not return to the thrower. It is curved wooden and has a bevelled edge.

Returning Boomerang

The aborigines were credited for making two types of boomerangs and one of them was a returning boomerang. It is much smaller and lighter than a non-returning boomerang. It was also used in battle and games.

Boomerang Art

Boomerangs were more than just weapons or toys. They were also a form of art. Many boomerangs have very detailed designs with artistic expressions.
