by Nikki Doley

Hajj today

When on the Hajj pilgrimage there are many rules you must follow. Before you leave home you must:
1. Clip your nails and remove all underarm hair.
2. Have a bath.
3. Remove your head cover of you are male and do not replace your head cover until you are free of Ihraam.
4. Recite the Talbiyah 3 times.
5. Remember from now on you are in a state of Ihraam.

When you arrive you must head straight to Makkah and arrange for your belongings to be kept in a safe place e.g. a hotel.

The five pillars is the most important Muslim ritual they are:
o Believe in only one true god.
o Pray at least 5 times a day.
o Give alms to the poor.
o Go on pilgrimage to Hajj.

When Pilgrims visit the Ka’ba they must circle it seven times and touch and kiss the black stone. Also they must wear the white ihram while on pilgrimage. The ihram is 2 pieces of cloth, one from waist to the shins, usually held up by tucking the loose ends of the cloth over the shoulder.
