Homework Help: Social Studies: People: Abraham Lincoln

by Marissa Spencer

"On the first day of January,in the year of our lord one thousand, eight hundred and sixty-three, all persons held as slaves within any state or designated part of a state, the people where of shall then be in rebellion against the United States, shall be then, and forever free."Abraham Lincoln

If I could go into history and meet any one in history, I would choose our sixteenth president, Abraham Lincoln. I admire him because of the things he's done for other people in his lifetime.

Abraham was born in 1809 and he was killed in 1865. Ioday, he is considered one of the greatest men of all time. Even thhough critics labeled him ignorant, incompetent, and socially crude, he grew into his job and gained the respect and appreciation of many people. Lincoln inspired many to do their duty as we understand it and he worked hard to bring Americans a world of peace.

Lincoln also worked hard to abollish slavery in South Africa. When people questioned him "why", he said that freeing slaves weakened the confederacy and that the proclamation could only be seen as a military action. Many still dont understand though.

Many people disliked Abraham. Many even hated him. Hatred only gave him more power to carry on what he was doing. This is why I admire him.

He inspired me to live my dreams and to never give up, and I hope he inspired many others as well. I believe he was a great president and we would be lucky to have another president like him.

I don't want to be exactly like him but I do want to do something that will equal the importance of what he did. To have met him would have been an exciting experience.
