Pre- Calc
just put the clues into symbols: 4(r+b) = 3w+3 5(b+w) = 8r+13 w = b+5 now substitute for w in the 1st two equations: 4(r+b) = 3(b+5)+3 5(b+b+5) = 8r+13 or, 4r + b = 18 8r - 10b = 12 8r - 10(18-4r) = 12 48r = 192 r = 4 so, b=2 and w=7

Arithmetic
ar^2 = 7/4 a/(1-r) = 14 a = 14(1-r) back into the 1st... 14(1-r)r^2 = 7/4 8(1-r)r^2 = 1 8r^2 - 8r^3 - 1 = 0 8r^3 - 8r^2 + 1 = 0 after a few trial-and-error attempts, I found f(1/2) = 0 ,so 2r-1 was a factor (2r-1)(4r^2 -2r-1) = 0 r = 1/2 or r = (1 ħ √5)/4 if r = 1/2 , ...

math
distance = rate * time so, since the distance covered is the same both ways, .8r * (t+10) = rt .8rt + 8r = rt 8r = .2rt 8 = .2t t = 40 so, total time = 40+10 + 40 = 90 minutes

QUADRATIC EQUATION
r^2+8r=48 First bring the 48 to the other side of the equation r^2+8r-48=0 Now you can use the quadratic formula. x=-b+-sqrt(b^2-(4ac)) ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ2aŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ So... a=1 b=8 c=-48 Now just plug the numbers into the quadratic equation and get your two answers. The answers are: x=-12...

Maths
T1 = a = 27 Tn = ar^(n-1) = 8 Sn = 65 = a*(1-r^n)/(1-r) 27r^(n-1) = 8 r^(n-1) = 8/27 Just as a guess, I'd say r=2/3 and n=4, since 8/27 = (2/3)^3 However, let's go on. 27(1-r^n)/(1-r) = 65 27(1-r*8/27) / (1-r) = 65 27(1-8r/27) = 65 - 65r 27 - 8r = 65 - 65r 57r = 38 r = 38/57...
