Homework Help: Science: Biology: Characteristics of Livings Things

Ever wonder how to tell if something is living or nonliving? Believe it or not, all living things have 5 main characteristics that define them as living things! They are as follows:

  1. All living things are made up of cells.
  2. All living things collect energy and use it.
  3. All living things respond or react to their surrounding environment.
  4. All living things grow and develop.
  5. All living things are able to reproduce.

We all know a car isn't living because it's not made up of cells and doesn't reproduce. On the other hand, we know a dog is living because it has the 5 main characteristics of living things.
