In a study of the effect of a medical treatment, a simple random sample of 300 of the 500 participating patients was assigned to the treatment group; the remaining patients formed the control group.

When the patients were assessed at the end of the study, favorable outcomes were observed in 162 patients in the treatment group and 97 patients in the control group.
Did the treatment have an effect, or is this just chance variation? Perform a statistical test, following the steps in Problems.
Problem 1. The null hypothesis is (pick the best among the options):
- The treatment has an effect which could be good or bad.
- The treatment has a good effect.
- The treatment has no effect.
- The treatment has a bad effect.

Problem 2.

Under the null hypothesis, the SE of the difference between the percents of favorable outcomes in the two groups is about _______%.

First one is the treatment has no effect

PROBLEM 3

The z statistic is closest to

0.8 1.0 1.2 1.4 1.6 1.8 2.0

PROBLEM 4
The conclusion of the test is (pick the better of the two options)

The observed difference is due to chance. The treatment has an effect

Problem 2 the answer is 4.5%

You now the correct answer for the problem 7?

Based on the information given, which test should you perform?

binomial test for the fairness of a coin is the right answer

PROBLEM 9 The conclusion of the test is

The treatment had a bad effect. is the right answer

PROBLEM 6

answer is The result is not statistically significant, so we conclude that the sons are taller than their fathers, on average.

thanks joan

PROBLEM 4 the right answer is The treatment has an effect

thx u very much denise

Hey be careful some are given the wrong answer...

Please try understand the exercises...

WARNING! Problem 4 Answer Given by Denise is wrong!

What is the result for problem 3?

P3

If you have the answer for P2 right it is easy to calculate the Z-test look too week 3 you have a lot of examples.

Can anyone show the calculation for P8?

Ok. So I got 1.69 and chose 1.6 and got it wrong.

WARNING! Answer 6, given by Joanne is wrong!!

If you don´t want to help, don´t, but don´t hurt!!

P3 steps:

1º- read the problem
2º- what are the 162 and 97? you need to do something to these numbers so you can make the calculations
3º- calculate the difference
4º- calculate the SE to the difference
5º- apply the formula of z-test to the difference. The value obtained from the formula is the answer.

(Sorry not give you a straight answer because there are many people who come here just to see the answers and give wrong answers and then reduce the hypotheses of err. They do not want to try to make the test even realize how it came to results)

P1 - The treatment has no effect.

P2 - 4.5
P3 - 1.2
P4 - The observed difference is due to chance.

Really stuck with P:

A group of scientists is studying whether a new medical treatment has an adverse (bad) effect on lung function. Here are data on a simple random sample of 10 patients taken from a large population of patients in the study. Both variables are measurements, in liters, of the amount of air that the patient can blow out (this is a very rough description of a well-defined measure). The bigger a measurement is, the better the lung function. The “baseline” measurement was taken before the treatment, and the “final” measurement was taken after the treatment.

Question:Problem 8

The P-value of the test is

less than 1% between 1% and 5% between 5% and 10% between 10% and 15% between 15% and 20%

Problem 9

The conclusion of the test is:

The treatment had a bad effect. The results are due to chance variation.

i have this answer right just by lucky i don't now how solve this... i really want to understand how calculate P8

Exercise set 4 answers: 6f02271d.linkbucks

in the last post is the link of the answers you need to complete with dotcom in the browser. you are welcome ;)

sorry Walter i don't understand what is: 6f02271d.linkbucks ?

P8= 15%-20%

P3=1.2

Hi Fábio

How do you calculate the P8?

how do u do question 2 whats the method

how do you do p8?
